"I have decided not to let this Lent go by like rain on stones, leaving
no trace. I will let it soak into me, changing me. I will be converted,
I will turn again to the Lord and love him as he wants to be loved." S. Josemaria
Lent, a precious opportunity for renewal and a growth in faith, hope and love, begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17th
Mass in Petworth at 10am and 7pm
Our parish, which covers just over 100 square miles of Sussex countryside, is in the Cathedral Deanery of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton.
There are two Catholic churches in the parish: The Sacred Heart, Petworth and St. Anthony and St. George, Duncton.
These pages will introduce you to our parish community, and give you some information about the history of the parish and its buildings. We are lucky to have two very beautiful churches, but there is much more to the parish than bricks and mortar. Our parish is a lively, dedicated and friendly community of people of all ages, united by our will to love God and to make him known to others. If you would like to come and visit us, you will be very welcome.
You can access the weekly newsletter, and a selection of Fr Peter's homilies, via the 'documents' page in the main menu.
Our
parish priest is Fr. Peter Newsam. He has been in the parish since
September 2004. Before that he was an assistant priest at Chichester
for four years, and before that at Bognor for 18 months. Fr. Peter was
previously a minister in the Church of England, and he is married with
two children.
